What I Hope to Gain

Being a High School teacher for the last three years I have seen technology take off in the classroom. Young people today seem only to survive if they have a IPOD, Smartphone, XBox360, HD Television, and the latest 3D movie to entertain them. Then we as educators are expected to engage this person in a stimulating manner for them to learn? The kids are bored (or texting) as soon as they hit the seat. I feel that I have to stay on top of the latest technology to be able to challenge the kids in class. Gone are lectures and worksheets. We are taught to chunk instruction with activities to keep the kids interested. Hopefully, I will learn new things, such as developing this blog, to assist me and offer more tools in the classroom. Can't fight progress so I need to jump on for the ride.

  1. I hope this class will help you meet your goals. Remember, it's not about the technology (those are just tools in our toolbox); it's about how we as teachers use these tools. As teachers, we also need not to be afraid of learning something new. We need to step out of our comfort zone.
